Interview with co-founder of Fide Mihi- Musarrat D Husain

Musarrat D Husain also known as Zoya Husain is the co-founder of local Fide Mihi legal services in Jamia Nagar, Delhi. She is Law graduate from Bharati Vidyapeeth Pune. She is a Lawyer in Delhi courts and specializes in Criminal, Family and Civil cases.

We have got an opportunity to interview Mrs Musarrat. We fixed an appointment through her site. When we reached her house, she welcomed us and after exchanging the pleasantries, we got to our interview.

Us: We see that you have offered your services as pro-bono also. Why didn't you started this initiative long back when you were fresh from college.

Musarrat: Sameer, good things take time. I got married soon after my college and had to take care of my kids. I was not able to devote much time to legal services. But now, as kids are almost self sufficient, I can continue the charity work. Waise bhi, no one wants even a pro bono from fresh out out of college(laughs).

Us: That's good to know. What do you feel about the legal system of India? Considering the guilty almost get out of the hand of law using good lawyers.

Musarrat: It is perfect. As John Adams rightly said:

“It is more important that innocence be protected than it is that guilt be punished, for guilt and crimes are so frequent in this world that they cannot all be punished.

But if innocence itself is brought to the bar and condemned, perhaps to die, then the citizen will say, 'whether I do good or whether I do evil is immaterial, for innocence itself is no protection,' and if such an idea as that were to take hold in the mind of the citizen that would be the end of security whatsoever.”
This is our motto that no innocent should be punished. We offer justice for everyone.

Us:How about your clientele? How do you provide legal services?

Musarrat: (Laughs). It is under attorney client privilege.

Us: No. I mean how people contact you for legal advices.

Musarrat: We have a website www.fidemihi.com . People do come through it. In a day, we get around ten calls for legal advice and some appointment requests.

Us: Good to know.

Then she got a call and asked for excuse. We waited for sometime but since the call was long one. We bid good bye to her and left.
